This is what I used to compress the valve springs on a Ford Focus when changing valve stem seals.
This was done without removing the cylinder head. Compressed air was fed into the spark plug hole
to keep the valves (at TDC) closed.
            
And this is what I used after I removed the cylinder head to fit a new gasket.                
            
A device to set the crank in the correct position when setting the valve timing.                
            
Milled out of mild steel this locks the camshafts in place (Focus again) when replacing a belt.                
            
Leakdown tester                
            
Sphygmomanometer used as an exhaust back pressure tester. Screws into the lambda sensor mount.                
            
NOID lights (bidirectional)
